Ben Gardier<br>As per Ben...."The foliage on my Kepi is boxwood and back in the day Irish troops wore that in their Kepis as a reminder of the Emerald Isle that they left behind. I am portraying my second great grand uncle who was an Irish immigrant who fought for the Union. He survived the war, was wounded, and drew an $8 / month pension for the rest of his life. Yet, he never became a citizen but could read and write; which was rare among his family at the time. He died in 1910 at the age of 75."
